The bad news is that I can't get to the bottom of it.
{debug,stack-trace}-on-error gives me nothing to go on.
I'll take this bug report upstream and see if they can help.
If this can't be resolved before Norbert wants to promote the
Pre-Release packages to Released, I'll downgrade the Gnus package to
the previous version.
