I also don't understand why the in-buffer encoding and write-utf8- read-binary buffers should compare different, but that's consistent across runs, too. So it's not a Heisenbug. I probably won't be able to work on this at all this week, and maybe not next weekend. Maybe this will be of help to somebody else.
