I think I did report it, but I'm pretty sure I also have an
account
on the bug tracker so I failed in my responsbility to file the bug
there as well. :-( I'll do that soon.

As reported it is an assertion that fires. The comment above the
assertion is interesting:
/* #### This assertion must be true before the if statements are hit
but may possibly be wrong after the call to
point_in_line_start_cache if orig is outside of the visible
region of the buffer. Handle this. */
Maybe this can help in finding what is wrong.
