You're using a recent Oort Gnus, for mail at least, have you tried
hitting RET or button2 on (info "(texinfo)itemx") in the Gnus article
buffer in XEmacs? It works fine.
I know that you can't `eval-last-sexp' it, I'm just pointing out that
you can go directly from the "link" in the article buffer in Gnus to
the info buffer in question with XEmacs.
