Its safe-ish, but not to be recommended because it slows things down pretty badly.
Great, this is a proof of concept for now so speed is less important.
I can speed it up later, if it actually works. :)
(I don't expect to be calling *much* from redisplay, anyway; but equally
I don't really want the system to explode because I've called a few
things, either.)
