Neal,
your report of a broken Tramp has been a while ago, and the symptoms
give me a kind of a deja-vu. So maybe the bug has been fixed. Also,
I think there has been a new Tramp XEmacs package since then.
So, are the problems fixed in the current Tramp XEmacs package?
