I tried interprogram-cut-function & interprogram-paste-function whith
no affect. Updating did seam to work.

Yes. Set `emacs-version' to at least 21.4.12. At least two separate
bugs that can have that symptom have been fixed recently. 21.4.13 is
due out Real Soon Now (I can't estimate better than that, sorry) and
it has some important fixes, though none that bear on this problem.
