Our derived.el is ancient. Since we handle practically everything
that modes care about (keymaps, syntax tables, font-lock) differently
from GNU, synching is a bear.
Possibly Daiki Ueno's patch (see URL) fixes, which may be OK for 21.4
despite my concerns in general (see my QUERY following up).
