(Note that while 21.5 can compile Mule-UCS, it shouldn’t ever run it; maybe this is part of your problem, it’s possible that files are being loaded uncompiled that shouldn’t be.) Recent changes to XEmacs core of mine *reduced* the number of contexts where circular list errors are signalled, so I would be surprised if they led to your problem.
