There may not currently be an official concept of "Latin-2 buffer" in no-mule, but Hrvoje has outlined some hacks that would make it possible at the Lisp level. It is important that we not eliminate that possibility in the process of making use of koi8-r fonts possible, robust, and convenient for users of Cyrillic. We've already been through this with Japanese. Mule XEmacs has had all kinds of trouble with Japanese-specific hacks and "standard conformant" implementations that somehow only work well for Japanese. I want to avoid that kind of problem with this Cyrillic support. If you want to start coding, that's fine. I'm just telling you about the kinds of problems with "straightforward" coding to deal with locale-specific problems that we've had in the past, and that I want to avoid them this time around. If your code doesn't address those issues, it will take longer to get integrated.
