Thanks, Marcus! That fixes the build for me.
I'm still having allocation problems leading quick crashes with glyphs
and in Xft. I suspect my X11 installation is broken (very easy to do
on Mac and I've got an old installation "Snow Leopard"). I'll let you
know if I learn more and it seems more like newgc is the problem.
