I use an X version of XEmacs on a Mac everyday. You have to tweak the
keyboard configuration a bit but that's all.
Here's my Xmodmap file on Darwin:
clear mod1
clear mod2
keycode 66 = Meta_L
keycode 63 = Mode_switch
add mod1 = Meta_L
This leaves the command key alone and uses alt/option for Meta.
