There's some general (quite likely at least partially outdated) vc
documentation at
http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/beta/html/xemacs_17.html#SEC148 . The
GNU Emacs documentation on it might be closer to what we have now:
http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Version-Control....
However, at least the XEmacs doc above doesn't seem to cover how to
auto-activate vc when opening files under control of supported version
control systems ("backends"). The way I've always done it is this in my
~/.xemacs/init.el:
(require 'vc-hooks)
Dunno where that came from, it's been there for ages, probably longer than
I've even understood what it means.
Hmm... That doesn't seem to do much by itself. In any case, I have
tracked down the info pages which, apparently, are the source of the
second link that you sent. They can be found in the GNU Emacs 22.3
distro in files.texi, vc-xtra.texi, vc1-xtra.texi and vc2-xtra.texi in
the man directory. And, I suppose they exist somewhere else as well.
But, can't these be placed in the VC XEmacs package? I see that they
are GFDL. Is that the problem? At least it is not GPL v3 :o)
