I do not have Fink installed but have a system with Apple's v1 X11.app and system 10.3.2 (XEmacs 21.5.b16 latest CVS). I think that error comment has been showing up at least since 21.5.b15. I figured it was because of problems with the way Darwin handles locale--only because many have complained in the past about other X programs having problems with Darwin's locale implementation. I also set a lot of font characteristics early in my init file.
