type=patch. Now I don't know the mime standard but it seems to me as
correct. patch files are really input files to the patch program. That
they are also human readabble is accidental :-). I am all in favor of
make things more convenient for Ben but it seems to me one should not
go out and fix TM for bugs it doesn't contain[1]. It would be better to
find another (local) solution to our problem if TM's behaviour
complies with the MIME standard.
It's not so much a "bug" in TM as a user-interface deficiency.
When inserting a file (via the menu pick or a key sequence), it's not
obvious how to specify the MIME type/subtype. It turns out that
entering a prefix will cause TM to prompt for the MIME type/subtype, but
it's pretty ugly, user-interface-wise, to require that a user press C-u
before selecting a particular menu pick (not to mention that it doesn't
even work from menu picks, at least under 20.4). I think
yet-another-menu-pick is in order here.
Of course, for those of you who like key sequences and abhor menu
picks, you have to do the following, to get TM to prompt for the
type/subtype:
C-u C-c C-x tab
Yeehah.
