For the empty frame, what OS are you running? I cannot reproduce
this on my linux box here. Are you using gnome? Or just GTK?
Just for the record ... I build a GTK build every couple of months to
see if the problem I reported to you a long time ago, an extra frame
appearing and a message in my terminal

has gotten better. It hasn't. This is on FreeBSD-current with both
gnome and GTK installed. None of my other gnome or GTK apps do this. I
know that's not much help and I don't expect you to fix what you
can't reproduce ... I just don't know what I can tell you that will be
more helpful.
