For those who don't read comp.emacs.xemacs, Andrew Choi has
announced a new port to XEmacs
(
http://members.shaw.ca/akochoi-xemacs/index.html). This
port is not based on Pitts Jarvis's efforts.
I've been comparing the two versions and I'm most impressed
by the new version. It's a much more conservative effort
which makes it easier to understand. It also builds using
the standard './configure ; make ; make install' sequence
rather than the existing convoluted process. I find the
combination attractive to work on. Others may think so too.
I'd like this version to be adopted as the MacOS port with a
view to incorporating it into the mainline in the nearish future.
Thoughts anyone?
From a cursory glance at the code, it looks good to me; certainly
it's in
the form I would expect it to look in such a case. If it works well,
I'd
have no objections to merging it into the mainline.
