I've noticed this too on a DSL link with 128kbps or 256kbps link to
me. And to think that I used to run xemacs quite well over a 19.2kbps
link with scrollbars off! It was version 19.10 or so, and was really
quite usable. And 19.10 didn't have tty mode yet (I think).
