Don't worry about getting everything you know how to do; a minimal comment that "we can do better on Debian/SuSE" points people in the right direction, and "this info is in Some File In /etc" or similar would probably make somebody familiar with the system in question gag-and-implement---almost as good as if you did it yourself.
