Your original post was not lost. I've just been swamped as usual. Mats Lidell <matsl(a)xemacs.org&gt; writes: Stephen is right: --without-prefix will get you your "two modes", as it's sensitive to where you're starting XEmacs from. It will not notice your previous installation, if you're starting in-place. On the other hand, back in the day, a bunch of people wanted exactly the behavior you're now complaining about.
