I recently (within the last two years, sigh) fixed a bug related to
zero-length extents, but *not* the one Stephen describes.
Actually, I've seen the bug Stephen describes -- swapping begin and
end glyph in zero length extents, and I've even reported it to
xemacs-beta eons ago. So that bug has been with us for a long long
time, possibly since XEmacs 19.12.
I don't have a fix.
