I have given it a try now and it does work. I have not tried it extensively but I think it could go into the packages anyway. It is that good I think. (Especially if we can get the crasch fixed ;-)) It might be asking for trouble, include code you know causes a crash, but I could very well see that we include your version of display-message-or-buffer in simple.el and git.el in the packages now. Have you resolved the sdiff issue?
