One thing I should say is that although the GNU people don't care much
about compatibility, they are open to constructive criticism.  For
example, the Mule internal interface has changed a lot, mostly for the
better.  I certainly encourage you to contact the responsible parties
at GNU and see if maybe they agree with you.
