Currently
XEmacs supports the new add-{submenu,menu-button} functions and the old
add-menu. When an external package desires FSFmacs compatibility, it's
free to use easymenu.
But with the unbundling of packages, and the desire to get the
maintanence load down on everyone, we should try our damndest to make sure
everything uses easymenu so that we can contribute the patches back to the
mainstream kernel. ie: the current lossage with VC.
I don't think easymenu is any harder to use than the raw stuff, unless
you do some weird things like VM or Emacs/W3 with the user able to specify
using only some of the available menus.
I didn't realize stock easymenu forced you to have a copy of the menu on
the popup-menu - that is incredibly bogus UI.
