So, you have at least two uncorrupted versions of the files.
Try
M-x erevision RET REV RET RET
to ediff revision REV with the current version and report back.

Ok it does not work neither, that is I have 130 versions of that file
You can do better than that, Uwe :-)
- What happened.
- What you thought should have happened.
- Precisely what you were doing at the time.
and can only visit the first 4 all other are reported as absent.
What does
C-x v l runs the command vc-print-log
report in any of the files under RCS?
On the command-line, what does
rlog FILE
report?
So I conclude that somehow the version file ,v is corrupted. What
I hope not.
Are these text files (which EOL coding?) or binary files?

really puzzles me that this seems to hold for ALL version controlled
files.
So it seems not so much a xemacs problem but it is an extremely odd
thing
