We are not talking about maintaining the code. We are talking
about making it possible for _anybody_ with multiple-encoding
requirements to use XEmacs at all.
David, please reread the thread. The comment about "let David be
David" was specifically described as a use-case for a Lisp codec (as
opposed to a C or CCL codec), which sure as shooting is about
maintenance. In that same message, preserving *all* original data was
described as a sine qua non.
You're welcome to change the topic if you like, but stop putting words
in my mouth, and start reading the ones I actually did write.
