[SUCCESS] 21.2 (beta32) "Kastor & Polydeukes" XEmacs Lucid on i686-pc-linux

I'm seeing weirdness in the locale stuff; some is probably glibc weirdness, not XEmacs. In particular, I have to specify LANG=xx_YY, not just LANG=xx to get setlocale() to work correctly (I have verified that X_LOCALE is not set and that I am using glibc's setlocale()). But I do get the splash screen and do not get the menubar in both French and Japanese locales when I do that. Per Steve Baur's suggestion I put symlinks fr_FR -> fr and ja_JP -> ja in /usr/local/lib/xemacs/mule-packages/etc/app-defaults/, and now I have both menubar and splash in Japanese, but only the menubar in French. In /usr/local/lib/xemacs/mule-packages/etc/start-files/ adding the same symlinks gives me French menu and splash, too. This is *ugly*. Aargh.
