Basic answer is "Yes, the usage should be consistent."
Hmm... I guess it was expected ;-)
This has annoyed me in the past but not enough to do anything. I
would review patches, for sure, though.
That is good. Time to do something about it then!
Bikeshedding: I tend to think that middle click shouldn't do
anything
in a link. I like the model where down-left arms a control or starts a
drag, up-left fires the armed control if point is still in it, marks a
region, or does a drop; middle click inserts something (either the
primary selection or the clipboard); and down-right pops up a context
menu. Return should do the same thing as up-left.
Sounds good to me. Might be a minor thing to correct but sometimes it
is good to pick some low hanging fruit to.
Anyway, just using the left button, and leave the middle button out of
it, makes things easier. I'm not sure but it seems like we have some
general support for that. I don't remember seeing that code in
help.el.
Some code in help.el can also be removed since we don't need to do
things for the middle button. Make code simpler.
Finally return. Could that possibly be handled just like the general
left-button support? Hit return on an extent and follow the link?
Yours
