Sorry for taking so long, but Here is a proper patch for what
I've
done. I haven't had any problems with sending mail out with this
patch.

This is a patch against the latest smtpmail I presume. I always had
difficulties with this smtpmail version with gmail and had to use an
older one, (no version number is provided.)
I will try out your patch.
BTW even this version only supports starttls, but no ssl?
I am asking, because gmail offers 2 ports for smtp:
- 587 with starttls
- 464 with ssl
The problem is I have been in places where 587 was blocked and smptmail
did not work!
