What Michael is worried about is admins and binary kit builders
(remember binary kits? :( ) who want to make relocatable trees.
Martin was always big on this, too. It's a GoodThang[tm].
I think what he plans to do is to add the "probably workable value" as
a presumed root, and tell people who want relocatable trees to use
--with-prefix=no. That (already implemented) flag gets rid of the
built-in knowledge of default installation roots, so that Emacs is
forced to rely on paths relative to the executable.
