Hi,
Tried recently to start to use the appt-package again after being
away from it for years. It is in calendar if you don't know it. I
then stumbled on substring-no-properties being undefined. A quick
check with Emacs revealed that it is there. So we have an
incompatibility.
Mats,
As a quick fix (completely untested) I believe you can replace the
"substring-no-properties" in appt-delete with "substring".
This is what I have in latest sync with the Emacs CVS calendar.
Now I guess this is not the only difference in the basic APIs. Do
you have some idea what process to use to best solve this? I mean
that some functions might not be interesting to implement, some can
be implemented in lisp and still some ought to be done at the
C-level.
What I've been doing when I run into these problem is either find a
compatible XEmacs function or just define a wrapper in cal-compat.el.
I think 21.4 will be around for quite awhile yet, so even if 21.5 was
released I don't think you could ignore that base.
And maybe most important would such a sync be interesting to have
in the "where do we go next thing?"
I know we try not to put new features into 21.4, but it would be nice
if some of the newer API features would get added if they are
eventually going to show up. It's probably just going to get worse
since a new Emacs release seems to be on the horizon.
