The point is I want to use the CVS directory of the official
XEmacs-auctex and also don't want to use .configure. But at the end it
must be the same, the resulting Makefile and all the other generated
files should be merged into the CVS directory. This is what I am
trying, maybe I should move other files as well. I also had a look
into the XEmacs pkg as generated by the auctex team, they don't have
the tex-site nor the auctex.el file which is sitting in their source
directory.

I am puzzled. In earlier versions tex-site got generated and was
essential in the current version this file is gone, although there are
a lot of calls to that file in the Makefile and in other lisp files.
It is really unfortunately that the auctex team decided to perform at
least 2 changes at the same time,
- Include preview latex
- Change the way auctex is initialized from the old tex-site to
something different.

unfortunately does not work neither error is now
make: *** No rule to make target `tex-site.el.OUT', needed by `tex-site.el'.
Stop.
I think I ask on the auctex list about the tex-site and the auctex.el
file
