Using "xemacs -vanilla" will bypass any startup files (either per-user
or system-wide). If it still happens, it's the hostname lookup.

Well, I can not bypass my startup scripts, but I am going to try if it
changes anything.
If it is looking for hostname, what hostname ???
My machine has two hostnames and both resolve locally . One is
localhost and second a nanme attributed to the IP address of my Ethernet.
