Ar an seachtú lá de mí Eanair, scríobh ghoyos(a)laas.fr:
I have installed Xemacs 21.4.16 and 21.5.18 in my PC running Fedora
Core
3, and in both cases I get the same situation. When I execute the
"xemacs" command in the command line, I get that Xemacs starts in text
mode instead of graphical mode (just as if I had executed it using the
"-nw" command line flag).
When I try to execute it by clicking on the icon, it simple does not start.
I have also tried to install the old version 21.4.5, which is installed
and running fine in my old RedHat 7.2 computer, but in that case what I
get is the compilation process aborted.
Can you please help me in this problem?
If you’ve compiled the program from source--as you would have to do for the
versions you mention on FC 3--it may be that it didn’t pick up the X11
libraries, which is quite likely if you haven’t installed the headers. Many
recent Linux distributions require that you install PACKAGE-devel if you
ever want to compile against the libraries installed by PACKAGE.
Try installing the xorg-x11-devel RPM, and recompiling XEmacs. Or install
XEmacs itself from an RPM.
Otherwise, send us the output of the following commands, from the terminal
you launch XEmacs, and we’ll see what we can do:
echo $DISPLAY
ldd `which xemacs`
xemacs -vanilla -batch -eval '(message "%s" (device-type-list))'
Bonne chance!
