Sounds like more of the same (ESD stealing signals, leaving us with a nasty race condition). Unfortunately the code that does this is in the ESD library. From your bug-report info, it's not clear whether you have ESD or not (for a long time ESD was automatically added if detected, even though the configure line says --with-sound=native).
