As far as I can tell, that this worked in XEmacs 21.4 was probably just
an accident. It certainly doesn't work in Emacs now.
I'm going to close this as "not our bug", without prejudice to whether
it *is* a bug, that's up to you, Lars. Right now, I haven't a clue,
but if I can help in resolving the matter, let me know.
