Ok. I'll try that and see what I can discover. Get a chance to learn
how to use hg bisect too. :-)
Well that was fast. I can no longer reproduce this issue. I have a build
where I can reliably produce this issue. I started doing bisection in a new
directory, using the same configure command using the same version[1].
Customize works fine. I don't think I've changed anything important since
then, so I have no idea what's going on.

[1] emacs-version said 1b054bc2ac40 so I did an hg update -r 1b054bc2ac40
and rebuilt in the new directory. Is that the right way to get that
version? Customize works in the new build using the same options to
configure.
