tab breakage

andy, your latest changes seem to have broken tab widgets again. in many cases, they no longer follow the buffers. i have seen all sorts of weirdness, but one very easy problem to reproduce is to load two buffers and switch between them using the buffers menu or M-C-l. -- Ben In order to save my hands, I am cutting back on my mail.
