Is this a known bug that's supposed to be fixed, or does it happen

Async updates are supposed to fix this. i.e. tabs only get updated when
redisplay gets called. If this is still happening it would be nice to know
why.
P.S.
Did I mention that it would be _really_ cool if the tabs could somehow
respect the background pixmap? The gutter looks very ugly when the
rest of the frame is pixmapized.
You did, and I replied that it was currently impossible.
