This did the trick for me:
I created an .XModmap file based on some messages on this list
several years
ago. Perhaps it could be modified do what you want: ...
! Right control key
keycode 70 = Hyper_R
I'm using the tiny default Bluetooth keyboard that comes with iMacs. I've
had all kinds of Buck Rogers keyboards. Although it's not ideal, this one now
suits me just fine.
Therefore, I no longer have a right control key. However, I do have a right
Option key, which xev tells me generates keycode 69. All I had to do was
change the 70 to 69, and voilá! I've got a hyper key.
In fact, I now have both super and hyper keys for the first time in far longer
than I can remember, and furthermore, with the help I got from others, now
have all my temporarily missing keymaps restored and functional.
In the process I took a long look at my key bindings file and rediscovered
a whole lot of handy stuff I'd pretty much forgotten about.
I'm *almost* a very happy camper now.
Thanks very much for the .XModmap model. It's been a long time since
I prowled through one of those, and that functionality was sort of important
to me.
