I've missed this too. However the toolbar is dangerous in that
killing buffers are serious matters and you might not have the
buffer selected that you want to kill.

well, a reasonably safe behaviour may be like this, popup a window
with either
buffername
kill/cancel
or
buffername
save&kill/kill/cancel
choices, depending on buffer savedness, while a less safe but imo
accettable behaviour would be unconditionally kill saved/temporary
buffers, and ask for unsaved only
(btw, the default would be the first bhv., the second to be chosen by
the user when s/he customizes the toolbar)
