Yes, this would be the solution most consistent with the package
system. Making it more robust and reliable. It will hopefully work for
all platforms as well. Less maintenance problems. Then maybe the need
for other solutions to the problem will vanish!?
It is a problem I feel for so after I'm done with the go-mode I can
have a look at it.
It is of course possible to automate the install of the sumo-packages
outside of XEmacs using a similar technique. Use wget or curl to
download the tar-ball and then install it at the right place. Sort of
automating what is described in the docs.
