But I'm not willing to risk breaking what doesn't need fixing for the
sake of consistency. Cf. the "Remove GNUish := from modules
Makefiles" thread for the kind of thing that you can end up with.
That was a case where something was broken on one platform, but the
obvious fix broke things in a different way for another platform, so we
had to come up with a less obvious fix that worked for all platforms. I
don't understand why you used it as an example here.
