AFAIK Qt (and therefore KDE) will move to some new "open" DnD
protocol. It is maybe better to wait for that.
Probably, but perhaps someone senior should be in touch with
their developers as the whole system is making a serious bid to be as user
friendly as Windows claims to be.
Even to the point of giving the user an option of having
Windows 95 like icons (bleeh).
