In short, those are the people that count, in votes, in circulation,

reputation, in power.
You mean like Richard? I guess not!
C'mon, David, inside Emacs it's not that bad, and the current
maintainership doesn't pay that much attention to the GUI crowd, just
lets them have their way occasionally. OTOH, it wouldn't hurt if they
paid more attention to folks like Eric Raymond (hare-brained though he
can be, and I'm not talking about his "open source" philosophy) and
Karl Fogel.
