While this note was awefully nice of me, it had a terrible s/n ratio. Here's my entire
message again, this time, hopefully, nothing will splice it:
Ah-ha: lib! Find was going a little skitzo on me, so I didn't even see it. . . I have
a healthy populated /usr/lib/xemacs and /usr/lib/xemacs-21.0-b37 (I'm only one beta
behind). I found out that my playing earlier did in fact get a package installed, so I
played some more and found that my problem was that I was unziping the tarballs before
running package-admin-add-binary-package . When I ran that on the original tar.gz's,
everything installed. This should be made a little clearer in the beta notes and maybe in
the FAQ. Now that I've done all that, I still don't have any modes (like c-mode,
Java-mode, HTML-mode, etc. . .). What packages do I need for those?
Thanks for your help Itay!
Terry

well, being a "newbie" myself, i'll try to help:
all those empty directories should be very full, so something is wrong.
if i am not mistaken, "make install" under cygnus would fail till andy's
install script a few betas back, since it would try to install
executables without the .exe extension. since it looks like you're
trying b30, maybe upgrading a little could help. you are 8 betas in the
past :)
as for the location of the packages: maybe there is an 'official'
method, but after not too many try-and-fails i found that installing
under PREFIX/lib/xemacs-21.0-b??/packages (which does not exist) works
just fine.
hope i've been of some help :)
