Yup. Not just for you, but for XEmacs as it stands. The bold = is
actually the JIS GETA MARK, which is the Japanese equivalent of U+FFFD
REPLACEMENT CHARACTER.

Yup. They've kludged up a Mule-unicode charset to handle this. Maybe
I'll add this to 21.4, but it's wrong, wrong, and evil to do it for
22.0 (which is what we're targeting 21.5 to become).

We need to start an issues page. I'm working (er, intending to) on an
automated issues tracker, but for now we can start by hand. If you
