It seems that a majority of people doesn't care. The GUI world has
shifted towards client side rendering a long time ago.
We can't cling to every little feature that few individuals (sorry if
you are one of the few in this case) got used to, ignoring all the
benefits that a modern GUI brings.

As far as your specific scenario is concerned, I believe a properly
written GTK application is able to apply settings from a resource file
at run-time. Since you won't be working on both machines at the same
time, applying the "wrong" settings to frames on the other display
wouldn't hurt too badly.
