I imagine this is true for most users of rsync. Maybe this is a relatively recent change? My most recent updated .cvsignore is dated 2002-06-17. There is a global cvsignore file. I think that it is probably reasonable to put many of the more common ignores in there; that has the advantage of being all server-side, too. Your suggestions would be welcome. If this _is_ a recent change and .cvsignore (which is a pretty harmless dotfile AFAIK) can't be given special treatment, what you can do is very simple: do a single CVS update from sunsite, then check the .cvsignore files into your repository using the cvs -d flag.
