Problems with configure revision 1.248

Is there some error in my configure command below that would cause configure not to find my Xaw3d headers? I compile with the Athena library using Xaw3d widgets. When I use this configure command configuring 21.5.b20 (+CVS2050328) fails. ./configure --enable-mule --enable-widgets=athena --with-athena=3d \ --enable-dialogs=athena --enable-scrollbars=lucid --disable-error-checking \ --with-site-libraries="/opt/local/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/lib" --disable-debug \ --with-site-runtime-libraries="/opt/local/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/lib" \ --with-package-path=${XEmacsPPath} \ --prefix=${ParentPath} --with-prefix --with-png --with-jpeg --with-tiff \ "--with-cflags=${CFLAGS} -Os" --enable-pdump \ --with-xmu --with-xim=no \ --enable-sound=esd --disable-xfs \ --enable-bignum=gmp --enable-union-type --with-dynamic (The ${VARIABLES} are defined.) The error is that the new version of configure fails to check X11/Xaw3d for headers when 3d is requested. The older version (from 2005-03-24 v. 1.246) finds the headers.
